Whether you’re daydreaming about when your significant other will pop the question or you’re in full-on planning mode, timing in booking your vendors is everything. I have had the pleasure of working with so many types of brides. The bride that books a makeup trial the day after she’s proposed to. The bride that waits until one month before (hey, I’m not judging!). And everyone in between. A question I get asked often is, when should I book my makeup artist for the big day?
First and foremost, you want to make sure you do your research. You want a makeup artist who is professional, listens closely to your wants, and can bring your vision to life for your wedding day glam. This can take time and trial and error which is why it’s best to book your trial 7-12 months before the wedding date. Sometimes throughout the planning process brides change their minds on what they want their makeup to look like which is totally okay! If this is the case for you, you can book another appointment closer to the wedding date. If you know your MUA or are confident that she can bring your dream wedding day glam to life, it’s okay to wait closer to 1-3 months before the wedding date as long as you’ve already secured your wedding date with the artist 7-12 months in advance.
While you’re researching, I’d hope this goes without saying, but factoring in your budget is key. Similar to how you set aside funds for a caterer or DJ, your makeup is equally important. There’s a slim chance that people will remember the song you walked down the aisle to, but your photos will live on forever. As you’re beginning to book and budget everything else, makeup should also be on this list.
I’ve had brides reach out to me a year in advance, and I’m happy to reserve your spot and get your trial run scheduled for a later date. It never fails that there are certain dates during the year that are more popular than others and I’m turning brides away for already being booked. So once you know who you want, nail them down!
I pride myself in offering bridal makeup packages that cater to every event and need. I’m happy to show up for your wedding day only, or be there for you during engagements, boudoir, and portraits. This will also need to be taken into consideration when you’re deciding when is a good time to book.
